PREVIEW: Filo’s Crashmania

17/07/2019

Sun 21st July 2019 – 1pm

Welcome once again to Mendips for another triple header of action and desctruction, only today with a more pinkish hue to proceedings, as today we turn the raceway pink for aiding the excellent work of Cancer Research for its mission for ridding the world of this horrible disease that will effect 1 in 3 of us. After the tyre tossers and little tykes and bikes have had their turn its down to the regulars! BriSCA F2 - The Pink Ribbon Trophy Today's proceedings mark a remembrance of Lesley Maidment, one time behind the scenes part of the furniture here at Mendips, better known perhaps for being mum of Nathan (935). Nathan is taking a sabbatical this year as he deals with double trouble - twin boys. Last year's winner Adam Rubery (700) hasn't had a classic season so far, but he is more than capable of turning a fast lap round the circuit The F2 crew have come of a busy period, the last of the qualifiers for this year's World Finals have concluded with Paul Rice (890) and teen sensation Charlie Guinchard (183) being victorius.

The Westcountry also has a new major champion - Steve Gilbert (542) is the new British champion winning it at a soggy Smeatharpe. Ben Borthwick (418) continues to impress as well. Just 10 points separate Matt Stoneman (127) and Luke Wrench (560). Wrench has made no secret that he wants to take the track championship and Stoneman has been on the sick list as he has been stopped racing on doctor's orders. Hopefully, with it being a solus meeting, the drivers should be in good number, however this is an extremely busy time, with the UK and European weekends being the other end of this weekend, camping in a field with a half cooked burger and warm beer seems to be more appealing to some!!!

FILO'S CRASHMANIA - MICRO BANGER TEAMS We remember Phil Cleverly, aka Filo (402) an all round legend of the Mendips quarter mile. Crashmania had taken many different banger formats, but the team event seems to be a winner! After witnessing a dominant display of team racing from the Glads last time out for the BBA English Championship, one wonders if team tactics will be coming to the fore! Early team news comes from 3 Teams of the undefeated Blue Stars, including a Seniors team (below), also a team of Allsorts always in support. Our Superstar drivers line up against eachther for what promises to be one of just a number of incredible Banger Meetings this year, see our finest on show!

SPECIAL RODS This year, even the Specials are joining in the fundraising. Various wives, girlfriends, mums and sisters will be getting behind the wheel in a charity race - which will see a lot of nervous drivers behind the wheel, and watching on the banks!! Things are starting to develop in the business end of a large and tiring season, with the last reshuffle of grades seeing Jim Cannon (135) and Joe Delahaye (768) take a maiden win. But it was Andy Latimer (120) who took the win.... For the points its Dene Howard (41) who leads from the Brices, Les (700) is a few points better for his few years senior Next time It's school night stockcar with The F2's fresh from Semi Final action at St Day and bangers and Juniors getting a run under the lights. There might be some extra fun too, keep it peeled to the socials and to mendipsraceway.com Cheers n gone Jonny
