On July 24th Mendips Raceway turns pink in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Every year on this date we hold our annual charity event for Cancer Research, which is titled Filo's Crashmania, in memory of one of our long serving banger drivers taken by the disease, but this year there is an extra dimension, as the Brisca F2 stock cars will be racing for the Pink Ribbon trophy, which has been presented by a racing family also touched by cancer.
As usual, there will be a variety of outrageous costumes on a pink theme, and the promoters put one pound of every adult admission into the charity fund, so please dress up in something pink-it costs nothing and it helps someone.
Filo's family have orgainsed an enormous fund raising effort this year 'Bang On Track' which involves a massive road trip around as many banger tracks in England, Scotland, and even Northern Ireland in the week leading up to the event, and you can follow their progress and get full details on the popular Ovalchat banger racing website.
In addition, they have held four auctions on Ovalchat-from Tickets to a drive in a Mondeo Rookie Banger- and have raised almost £700 from these sales.
As a bonus, everyone who has had reason to fall out with our Starter, Mr Andy Chant, will have the opportunity to fire a wet sponge at him in the stocks! You can pay your money and have a go, between 12.30 and 1pm on race day-should bve a good queue for that one!
