PREVIEW: SPRING BANK HOLIDAY 25-26 May 2025 - 1PM

May 22, 2025

Welcome to a wonderful Whitsun Bank Holiday, here at the mighty Mendips, where another weekend of close quarters action is taking place on our raceway….

SUNDAY

BriSCA F2

A third trip out for Europe's biggest open wheeled formula and if the past two meetings are anything to go by, we should be in for a cracker.

Josh Weare (736) was the undoubted star of the show last time out, taking a very rare Final and Grand National double. Dan Kent (976) continued his excellent form – a second in the final following his third in the opener. All eyes on him for the win today???? A career best highlight for the ever-improving Matt Stone (510) who took second in the final in one of the drives of the day last time out. We welcome the regular visitor of Jamie Jones (915) and Rebecca Smith (931) - their travels are well applauded, despite many drivers within a closer proximity to us who choose to unreasonably forsake.

Jordan Butcher (509) took round one of the Mighty Whites series, Other commitments prevent Jordan from being here, so someone else can take full advantage as Round 2 takes place today with the gracious support of Mike Cocks (762) and Adrian Watts (222). We thank them for their support!

2L BANGERS

Another banger meeting and with points available for qualification for the big ones available. A field of 17 cars takes part under 'Old School racing' rules, of which the field features World Champion Jake Bon 743, Points leader 262 Rob Bugler and father and son Harvey duo 86 Jason and
87 Liam. A very nicefully presented car is expected from local superstar 154 Joe Odhams.

JUNIOR RODS

The kids are alright and excellent showings so far this season. A drop from superstar to red was a key benefit for the steady progression for Austin Latimer (620) who won 2 races last time out. Of the newbies, Benji Higgins (916) took a faultless heat win and will be one to catch.

But it is the Bryant bros, Olly (111) and Archie (511) who have been the ones to watch, however in their over eagerness to get to the front, it has been the steward watching closely! A day of non indiscretion we hope awaits

SPECIAL RODS

Another spot of non contact closed quarters action heads to the track as the Specials are back in town. Last time out, it was a day to be a Tom, as Lewington (224) took another win and Bristow taking 2 heats and the final. Andy King (51) marked his return to the raceways with some impressive showings and rounded the day off with a win in the GN.

Whilst the stars struggle to catch those further forward in the grid, its likely as the grades develop that a few more star grade drivers will rise to the top.

ROOKIES

Nudge and spin on the smaller bangers race their way to glory with numerous obstacles made with and without their own haste. Last time, former West of England champs were victorious. Chris Neville (109) took the final, and the welcome return of Chrissie Jeanes (113), free from youngster duties for a somewhat rare outing. The next generation will be in attendance with aplomb with Liam Harvey (87), Tom Gumbleton (198) and Ryan Brooks (210) and there's a welcome appearance for Beth Stevenson

(61) who'll be hoping that a vehicle she drives keeps driving!

ROBINS

It's Crazy Day for the plastic pigs, to be honest most days are at best slightly unhinged for the titillation traders. Today's events are often dreamt up in a bunker somewhere in South Somerset. Previous events seen the drivers ride the wrong way round, slalom like Franz Klammer, and go around the track joined at the hip with a fellow contestant. What madness decends is down to those crazy folk.

Tom Weeks (100) is going for the race wins – he is yet to roll this season! Meanwhile, the Rent A Robins (00) and (728) seem to be providing the rolls - and the headaches for the team behind the robins!

NEXT TIME

It's our Midsummer Banger meet with plenty of banger action. Keep an eye on the socials and mendipsraceway.com for the latest.

Til' then Cheers n gone
