Welcome, once again to Mendips Raceway for August, and today we’re all a particular hue of fuschia, as we put the fun back into fundraising as we race to raise money for Cancer Research. Expect tyres flung and laps with the stars as we think Pink!
F2 are back at the raceway for the trophy that many want to win. The Pink Ribbon Trophy, sponsored by the Maidment family and Maidment Motors, started in 2011, when Lesley was still with us but very, very poorly. She succumbed to the Big C pretty soon after, and this trophy we remember her influence here at Mendips.
She was very much a part of Mendips, she was an integral part of Race Control assisting with the lapscoring and racing administration when required and being the racing mum for Nathan when he started his career here in the Junior Rods Last year, Josh Hamstead (405) was victorious in the big race holding off sprited challenges from grades above which saw him take the big trophy, and the flamingo shirt off of my back. An advantageous drop to yellow will see Hamstead’s defence be a little bit easier, however, he will also be joined by Nathan Maidment (935) in the yellow grade, along with speed merchants Charlie Fisher (315) and former winner Dan Kent (976) who is threatening to retire after this meeting. Former track champion Tommy Farrell (667) also drops to blue. The likes of Josh Weare (736) and newly crowned UK Open Champion Matt Stoneman (127) will also be ones to watch..

– Filo’s Crashmania Teams – In Memory of Phil Cleverley Teamwork makes the dream work is the well pedalled adage and our banger boys and girls will be looking for a little help from their friends.
Nudge and spin the name of the game as the drivers find out who are popular with their fellow drivers. The Spirit of Filo was that he loved a crash, and would help anyone out.
One of the sports true gents who was taken far too soon by this terrible disease Last year, sae Bod Squad Juniors be victorious. They are back for what they hope will be a successful defence of the Crashmania title. In the team, Liam Shipway (31), recently betrothed and now got a bit more weight on one side with the ring! Team Blue has the super fast female Caitlyn Emery (881) along with young hotshot Harry Ellacott (162). Finally, the Wallbangers as the Harvey family get involved also.
– Summer Series Round 1 & Ladies Race Like the other formula, the Special Rodders are here for the first round of their summer series where random draws will aide to slow down the lower graders from getting away with it.
Ben Bristow (66) still leads the way in the points and last time out, celebrating a job well done, was Scott Weldon (517) who took full advantage of his yellow roof to grab a huge points haul.
However proceeding will start with the better halfs having a go raising some dough as the ladies take to the track. Suzy Bennett has been on hand to get a grid of girls and arm wrestling the cars off their owners, who don’t want anything bad to happen to their babes. For that I mean, the cars, not the ladies!
Coming up, there’s a midweek meeting where the Specials will have round 2 of their Summer Series, the mini Nascar like, American Cup Cars, and the almighty Swamp Thing Monster Truck, before the bank holiday brings CARAVANDALISM!!!!
See you then,
Cheers n gone
