PREVIEW: CARAVANDALISM WEEKEND! 24-25 August 2025 - 1PM

August 20, 2025

Welcome again to Mendips Raceway for the only way to see out the summer holidays, with a weekend of crashing, smashing, hard hitting action!

SUNDAY

2 Litre OLD SKOOL BANGERS

Back to the domestic matters following the broo ha ha of the mighty Banger World Series round and more World Qualifying points are up for grabs today. Mostly Mondeos are on the agenda, as the usual superstars are attendance. BRMC’s Big Mac (440) and Boogie (252) fresh from showing all and sundry how its done in this acre, top the line up.

Likewise Lewis Fasey (186) will be looking to have a better end to the meeting after being one of the big victims of a big hit. That will not happen today as nudge and spin are the name of the game in the spirit of earlier banger racing, where hits got harder as the meeting progressed.

He also has the returning big sister Sophie (286) to look after him!

Former junior rod racer Dylan McDermott (36) has a go in the big bangers for the first time with us.

JUNIOR RODS

The youngsters are back again for the first time since May. The Bryant Boys lead the way with Archie (511) leading Olly (111) from Austin Latimer (620). Of the 2025 intake, the likes of Zach Stephens (120) are getting to grips and rapidly rising up the grades all looking rather competitive at the front. Gradually getting to grips is the Bodette,
Freya May (748)

SPECIAL RODS

The Special Rods are back again, fresh from their last outing on Wednesday and Andrew Bressington (278) leads the way. A resurgent Ben Brice (701) keeps him honest, whilst the star of the season so far Jody Jeanes (133) continues his conversion from Bangerist to rodder. It is either chequers or wreckers for Iain Truman (118) as he continues his wins in the formula – if only he can keep his mum from impromptu trophy girl duties!

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY

BriSCA F2 – The Marion Bennett Trophy

The nation’s biggest open wheeled formula finish off a busy western weekend with ourselves. For the top boys, matters of the Semi Finals and the gossip from those will be mostly on the agenda.

But for many, it’s the track championship up for grabs – there is a fair chance that it will be a Dan. Defending track champion Roots (776) leads Kent (976) by only 2 points. A bad day for either could see the likes of Kasey Jones (186) in the mix also. Last year was close also and ended in brutal action! Reigning World Champion Luke Wrench (1) pays us a last visit before the defence of the Gold roof at Cowdenbeath in just under a fortnight’s time.

The Marion Bennett trophy is also up for grabs too. Today’s big crowd should be a nice warm up for those going north of the border and to our drivers, the very best of luck and bring it home!

ROBINS

The tweety bird three wheelers come to their conclusion of seasons, with a wobbly way to conclude with a roll. The rodder Tom Weeks (100) has lost his grip at the top of the points with Matt Dixon (509) now standing proud and aloft the points. Whilst the points are up for grabs, the rollers will be entertaining. Former trophy girl, Immy Loader (669) makes her return after her practice day shenanigans saw her up before the beak, early in the season. Standby for action today as we have the Figure of 8 with added crossover calamities and concluding with the DD to perish a few plastic pigs.

ROOKIES

The nudge and spin small cars come to the fore again, with the likes of Brad Hunt (775) showing that consistency is the fore front. Former track champion Chrissie Jeanes (113) has been making appearances. Full fat Banger World Champion Jake Bond (743) has been going back to his roots getting some wins on board.

CARAVANDALISM 25

You’ve seen them stuck on the B Roads, holding up traffic on the A roads and stuck on the hard shoulders on the motorway, the wonderous wobbleboxes will meet their maker on the Mendips quarter mile today. It is sure to be a fabulous furore of fibreglass fury as once again, the caravans come to crunch. Will Pugs (154) be victorious today?

Win or lose, the roads will be happy!

Next up, the World Weekend is up for grabs. National Bangers competing for the oldest World Title, with plenty of bangers in attendance.
Special Rods, the excellent Saloon Stock Cars and for the first time in years, Rebels. Get your tickets now for that at mendipsraceway.com

Til then,

Cheers n gone

The Marion Bennett Trophy

The trophy began as a tribute to my Granny, who, despite attending only one race, stayed connected to my love of racing by sending me newspaper clippings and underlining my favorite driver's wins. While I was a student nurse, we presented the trophy for the first time at a world final meeting with my parents proudly watching.

Over the years, my sons joined in the tradition, helping to present the trophy, and even when I couldn’t attend, Graham kept the races going. Eventually, my grandson joined in as well. Though COVID interrupted the tradition, we're continuing it today, with more grandchildren watching eagerly, hoping their favourite driver wins. This trophy has become a symbol of family, racing, and the cherished memories of my Granny.
