Dinner and Dance 2010 report

Two hundred drivers and fans gathered on February 6th at the Webbington Hotel for another night of Trophies, dvd shows, dancing and fun.

The meal was three courses, including roast beef and apple pie, and then Steve Linfield, ably assisted by Andy Chant carried out the Trophy presentations, which culminated in the 2009 Driver of the Year.

In a change from previous years, the voting had been by drivers for drivers, and had been carried out by Nicci Port and the Top Tin Totty, who received a bouquet by way of thanks!

The hall fell silent as Graham Bunter read out the result from the sealed envelope.

Third place was Marcus Goldsmith, second Steve Griffin, but the clear winner was Mike Cocks, who was presented with the trophy to great applause.

Ovalchat's Katharine was then interviewed on her plans for the Banger Drivers Benevolent Fund, and it was agreed that a proportion of the Raffle takings would be donated to the Fund once it was available.

She was asked to take round some specially designed Get Well cards for all to sign to send to Scott Weldon, who was enduring another eight weeks of recuperation after his recent accident.  

Our Trophy girl Abbie received a bouquet, as did organiser Pat Bunter, and then we saw a 1989/99/2009 compliation dvd on the two screens by Chris Dalton, marking his twenty years of service to the Raceway.

Chris was presented with an award to mark the occasion, and then the presentations were wrapped up by a surprise birthday cake presented to Super Stan, Pete Stanley by Mendips Raceway's alternative trophy girl - Andy Booth!

Some great music from Hot Dog Jackson followed, interspersed by the 2009 dvd compilation, and the raffle draw - and 1am came round all too soon for the revellers, some of whom were still in the bar at 3.30am!
